Las Vegas Fur Con 2024

Ribsy in the hotel room.
Las Vegas has long been a dream destination of mine. The artifice, the spectacle, the juxtaposition of high-brow and low-brow…it’s exactly my kind of place. Willow was in the Dealer’s Den for Las Vegas Fur Con and had a room at the Alexis Park Resort, and nobody to share it with. It was a little last-minute, but I eventually gave in to the temptation to accompany her as her dealer’s assistant. The convention, in only its second year, was held from March 29-31st. It was a 21+ event, with the entire resort being bought out by the convention for all three days.

We arrived bright and early Thursday morning, and were able to check in straight away. The resort consisted of numbered buildings spread throughout a complex full of palm trees and courtyards and three whole swimming pools. It was exciting to imagine the place being full of furries and only furries for the weekend.

It's so beautiful...

The Adventuredome is everything you would want out of an indoor amusement park.
Our first stops after settling in - Sbarro AND White Castle. I was in awe of the beautiful building containing both these fast food restaurants, with a 7-11 sandwiched in between. It was my first ever White Castle experience, and I’d classify it as “decent.” From there, we took a Lyft to Circus Circus, so Willow could ride the two coasters at the Adventuredome. I hadn’t yet conquered my fear of roller coasters that go upside-down, so I just watched from the sidelines. But I loved the atmosphere of the Adventuredome, and the way the sunlight filtering in through the glass dome ceiling turns everything a subtle shade of pink.

Next, we walked the Strip. It was incredibly hot and sunny out. I immediately fell in love with the place…the excess, the luxury, the theming, the debauchery. The waterfall outside the Wynn, the canals at the Venetian, and the shops at Caesar’s Palace all entranced me. We browsed the Versace store, where Willow was permitted to touch an $800 pair of hoop earrings.

I'm a huge sucker for a water feature.

Khao soi at Lotus of Siam. Oh baby...
Back at the resort, it was time to register for the con and set up Willow’s table. The whole thing was unorganized. The staff members we were able to find seemed clueless on where to send us to pick up dealer’s badges. Luckily, another dealer overheard us chatting with some similarly-confused people, and took us on a field trip to the correct place. It ended up being in a hotel room tucked away behind a staircase, with poor signage. LOL. But the whole process was easy from there.

Our dinner reservations that night were at Lotus of Siam, recommended to me by a friend. It was popping off in there, and even with the reservations, we had to wait awhile. Completely worth it - the crispy duck khao soi I’d been coveting was insane. So complex, rich, and unlike anything I’d eaten before. I felt deeply satisfied as we walked back to the resort, stopping at Silver Sevens Casino, 7-11, and Liquor World on the way.

Friday morning began with a perfectly serviceable breakfast at the Alexis Park. The restaurant had no music playing, was eerily quiet, and gave me assisted living facility vibes.

A typical day at the pool.
I spent my day switching between helping Willow at her table, lounging by the pool, and lightly socializing. I didn’t know too many people attending the con, but got some hangout time with Dibble and friends. Willow’s sales were excellent. I was so impressed that the convention provided free lunches daily for all the dealers and assistants!

Once Dealer’s closed, we chilled until our reservation at Golden Tiki, one of my dream tiki bars. It was amazing and lived up to the hype. The music was perfect, the decor was immersive and detailed. All the food and drinks were excellent, but especially the Banana Batida, which we split at the end. It was definitely a “dessert” drink, but so good.

Saturday was much of the same: alternating between helping in Dealer’s, and browsing the convention on my own. I got in my single fursuiting outing this day, though not for long. It started raining, forcing me back inside. The weather was not ideal throughout the weekend, so there wasn’t quite as much poolside lounging as I’d hoped for. I made a trip over to the sportsbook at Silver Sevens to bet on the Florida Derby. My bet on Hades was a losing one - but the bet I placed on Fierceness on Willow’s behalf was a winner. The real highlight was bonding with a couple old guys who were betting on NBA games. They laughed about their total cluelessness over betting on horses, and I shared that I felt that same way about sports betting.

I really do love a water feature.
Another restaurant reservation awaited us that night - this time at Margaritaville. Yeah, it’s no Michelin-star joint, but I’m a pretty big Buffett fan, plus this particular location was set to close soon. There was no way I was going to Vegas without getting myself a Cheeseburger in Paradise. I was very satisfied with my meal and the atmosphere, all set to Jimmy music.

After that, we browsed the Caesar’s shops more, and walked to the hotels we hadn’t seen yet. This included the Luxor, which had several Anubis-themed decor features I had to get pictures of. We also got to see the famous Bellagio fountain show. Back at the resort, we socialized a bit and checked out the party scene and dance, but ultimately, we really didn’t do that much furry con stuff. We were too absorbed with all the nearby tourist attractions.

I took it real easy on Sunday, though I promise I did help Willow too! A bit. The weather was nice enough for me to lounge by the pool with some friends and acquaintances. I’d also purchased a bath bomb, thinking it would be fun to indulge and try out our hotel room’s nice big bathtub. The bomb I chose just kind of made the water look like glittery piss, but I soaked for a bit while enjoying some Roku gin, Mountain Dew Voltage, and a 100 Grand bar. After Dealer’s closed, we chose to celebrate with a nice steak dinner.

Hi, Chingado!
Our quest took us to Oscar’s, a steakhouse in the Plaza, overlooking Fremont Street. We had a fantastic view from our table, and enjoyed a decadent meal. We walked Fremont Street afterwards, which was extremely overwhelming, but allowed us to see some great old neon.

We had quite a lot of time to kill on Monday. We walked the Strip some more, and had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe (the location near Seattle I’d grown up going to had long since closed, so this was pretty exciting). Exploring the Bellagio was a real highlight, but the Flamingo was a favorite, too. We stumbled upon a little outdoor bar at the Wynn, the Aft Cocktail Bar, where we had some really great drinks with a stunning waterfall view. Later, dinner was at an Italian spot inside the Venetian. I loved the disorienting, Disneyland-like theming.

At the airport, security was quick, other than Willow’s backpack full of porn comics needing to be hand-inspected by an agent. It was dark when our flight took off, and my window seat offered an incredible view of the Strip, all lit up at night. The Bellagio fountains were even going off as our plane ascended! A great end to a wonderful trip. It was more like a standard vacation with a furry convention on the side. Next time, I’ll hopefully try to experience more LVFC events instead of spending so much time away from the resort. And there certainly WILL be a next time, because just as I suspected, I’d fallen in love with Fabulous Las Vegas.

Just a few beautiful sights seen on our last day.
